Play FIZZ's six tracks from a keyboard or a DAW, set any sound value with a CC, run the whole FM-1 from a controller on channel 16, send the tracks' notes and the clock out, and turn a track into a MIDI track that sequences other gear.
Everything on this page works over Bluetooth MIDI too, with FIZZ's Bluetooth package: in and out, the CCs, the remote and the clock, on the port the computer names "FM-1 … Bluetooth".
Channels
MIDI comes in over USB or the TRS jack (and Bluetooth, with the Bluetooth package). Out is USB only (and Bluetooth, to a connected computer): the FM-1 has no MIDI out jack.
Channel
In
1 … 6
Tracks 1 … 6: notes play the track, CCs set its sound. Each track's MIDI CH (track settings page 1) runs 1 … 15, so a track can listen anywhere and two tracks can share a channel.
7 … 14
The tracks set to them, if any.
15
The selected track, whichever it is.
16
The remote: the FM-1's keys, buttons and knobs (below). It never plays a track.
In
Notes play the track with their velocity, as the FM-1's keys do. Notes to the selected track also go into a held step, or into a recording with REC.
Modulation: MOD WHEEL (CC 1), BREATH (CC 2), channel pressure and pitch bend reach the track's modulation slots as sources.
CCs set the sound (the map), as the editor's knobs do with nothing held, and the notes sounding follow. With REC and AUTOMATION on, CCs to the selected track record as locks.
CC 120 and 123 end the channel's notes.
The clock and START / CONTINUE / STOP drive the transport: FIZZ follows an outside clock while one runs.
The CC map
The same for every sound and every track: send on the track's channel, or 15 for the selected track. 0 … 127 covers each value's whole range, shown here end to end; the mixer's 91, 93 and 94 are the sends. A MIDI track ignores these.

The remote: channel 16
A controller on channel 16 plays the FM-1's panel exactly as your hands do: every screen, every menu, holds and combinations included.

64 or more presses, below 64 lets go: a button held on the controller is held on FIZZ.
Out
A track's notes: track settings page 3, KNOB 4 MIDI OUT, OFF or a channel 1 … 16. The track's notes go out as it plays them, after its MIDI FX and arp, and so do the notes you play on it. It still sounds too; a MIDI track sends without sounding.
The clock: SETTINGS (GLO + SEL), KNOB 3 CLOCK OUT. While FIZZ plays on its own clock it sends the clock (24 a beat), START and STOP. ON at first.
Knob moves: SETTINGS, KNOB 4 CC OUT. Turning a sound value sends its CC from the map on the track's MIDI CH, so a controller's lights and a DAW's automation follow. The CCs that come in are never sent back. ON at first.
Stopping, muting a track or changing its channel ends every note it still owes.
MIDI tracks
Track settings page 3, KNOB 3 ENGINE: FM TONE or MIDI. A MIDI track has no sound of its own: it sequences other gear on its MIDI OUT channel, which is set to the track's number if it was OFF. It takes no voice, so the FM tracks keep all eight.
EDIT shows seven pages of four CCs, 28 in all. SELECT or B1 … B7 picks the page and KNOB 1 … 4 set the values, sent as you turn.
SHIFT + a knob picks that slot's CC number, 0 … 127. Page 1 starts at CC 16 … 19, page 2 at 20 … 23, and so on up to page 7's 40 … 43.
A slot never turned is a dashed empty bar and sends nothing, so a MIDI track only sends what you set.
Hold a step and turn for a lock: the step sends it as it plays, and the track's own value goes out again at its next note. The latch, B11, F2 + a knob and REC with AUTOMATION work as in the sound editor.
A MIDI track's slots save with its sound, so a preset can be a MIDI preset, ready to load on any track. Setting ENGINE back to FM TONE gives the track the INIT sound.
